During the 2025 Consultative Meeting in Kicukiro District, a local church leader was inspired by discussions on early and unwanted pregnancy (EUP), gender-based violence (GBV), and youth empowerment. Recognizing the critical role faith leaders play in shaping community values, he decided to take action within his congregation.
With support from Happy Family Rwanda Organization (HFRO), he initiated youth-focused sessions on family life and responsible decision-making. These sessions provided adolescents with guidance on relationships, reproductive health, and life skills, reaching over 200 young people in the community.
Reflecting on the impact, he said:
“We realized our voice from the pulpit can guide young people to make informed and responsible choices.”
Through this initiative, the church has become a safe space for youth to discuss sensitive issues, and the partnership with Happy Family Rwanda Organization (HFRO) has strengthened community awareness on preventing early pregnancies and promoting family wellbeing. This story highlights how faith leadership and civil society collaboration can effectively empower youth and drive positive social change.
